The A809 floor lamp was designed by Alvar Aalto in the late 1950s and produced by Valaistustyö, Aalto’s main lighting manufacturer during the post-war period.
It features a slim black leather-wrapped stem, a circular base, and three stepped white lacquered steel shades that diffuse light softly while reducing glare.
Brass details connect the shade assembly to the stem, adding contrast and refinement.
Produced in limited numbers and no longer in regular production, the A809 is now a sought-after example of mid-century Finnish design and Aalto’s approach to combining functional lighting with warm, natural materials.
